Transneft Ural Develops Scientific and Technical Potential of Republic of Bashkortostan

Date of publication: 09 September 2020

Transneft Ural expands cooperation with scientific and technical enterprises and organizations of the Republic of Bashkortostan. Mr. Kovalev, Director General of Transneft Urals, spoke about the experience of effective interaction with the engineering center of the Ufa State Petroleum Technical University (EC USPTU) and the Bashkir Research and Production Association OrgNefteGaz at the Industrial Hour meeting chaired by Mr. Khabirov, Head of the Republic of Bashkortostan.

Since 2015, Transneft Urals has allocated about RUB 400 million to purchase high-tech products and services within the framework of this interaction.

In 2019 and 2020, Transneft Urals entered into contracts with the EC USPTU for the supply of about 200 sealed manholes designed to accommodate telemechanics systems on the trunk pipelines and for installing air escape valves. Most of the equipment has already been delivered at the enterprise.

The engineering center is included in the register of suppliers of the main types of products of Transneft and manufactures process equipment for Company's enterprises, such as PIG traps, manholes for placing the trunk pipelines equipment (air escape valves, instrumentation). The center also provides services for the application of anti-corrosion coatings to protect mechanical process equipment and pipelines.

The sealed manholes are installed on the linear of trunk pipelines and provide the necessary temperature and climatic conditions for the equipment operation, protect it from unauthorised access and external effects, including flooding by groundwater during the spring flood. The use of sealed manholes allows to significantly increase the reliability of the equipment installed in them and, thereby, the reliability of the operation of the linear part of the trunk pipelines as a whole.

A new model of a sealed manhole is currently being prepared for testing. Its design was improved as part of the joint work of Transneft Urals and the EC USPTU on development of scientific activities and support of young professionals. The new model allows diagnostics of equipment installed in the manhole without dismantling it. In October 2020, a prototype of the improved manhole will be installed at the Nurlino Line Operation Dispatcher Station to work out its implementation.

In turn, Research and Production Association OrgNefteGaz performs design and surveying, field supervision services, carries out diagnostic and Industrial safety appraisal of facilities and pipelines for Transneft Urals. In 2020, preparations for the diagnostic of oil pipelines of Transneft Urals’ branches (the Tuimazy, Cherkassy and Arlan Oil Pipeline Directorates) are underway, the Industrial safety appraisal of the Ufa – Airport petroleum products trunk pipeline is being carried out.

The purchase of high-tech products and services from domestic enterprises helps to improve the reliability of the trunk pipeline system of Transneft Urals and at the same time makes a significant contribution to the development of country's industry.
