Transneft Urals Completes Technical Upgrading of Electrochemical Protection at Ufa – Omsk Pipeline

Date of publication: 25 October 2018 Print

Transneft Urals has completed technical upgrading of electrochemical protection (EСP) system at a section of the Ufa – Omsk petroleum products trunk pipeline (PPTP) in the area of responsibility of Kolesnikovo-PP line operation dispatcher station (LODS) of Kurgan Oil Pipeline Directorate (OPD).

The work was performed in compliance with the Technical Upgrading, Revamping and Overhaul (TUR&OH) Programme of Transneft Urals for 2015 – 2021. The technical upgrading of the EСP system was intended to replace worn-out equipment that no longer met the modern requirements for protection of trunk pipelines and facilities.

Modular cathodic protection stations (CPS) with increased power output, which use pulse converters with automatic control and monitoring of technical parameters, were installed. At the same time, 6 (10) kV electrical equipment was installed in a single module with the rest of the CPS’s equipment. Anode beds with increased lifetime and instrumentation racks were also mounted. Cables with improved characteristics were used. All CPSs are protected against unauthorised access. 6 (10) kV route power lines operated by Kurgan OPD will be used to supply power to the newly installed equipment.

The technical upgrading of the ECR system will provide more reliable protection of the Ufa – Omsk PPTP’s section against corrosion, improve energy efficiency as well as reduce costs and increase the speed of maintenance.
